The human body is a major feat of biological engineering, for example, it protects itself against the cold, and it was bloody cold this morning by the way. That cold I was mugged by a waddle of King Penguins for my snood – find the connection please my global audience, find the connection. Anyway, your body uses some incredible mechanisms to keep you warm. Sit back and embrace some facts. Your body is built to maintain a stable core temperature of 37°C, when the temperature drops thermoreceptors in your skin sound the alarm and a host of weird things happen, your blood vessels constrict, you urinate a lot, your fingers shrink, your face goes red especially your nose and the bad news is that you make things worse if you drink alcohol – the Legends are buggered!
What happened last night? A big night that’s what but first it was the food for kings, meat pie washed down with a cheeky, a traditional CQ banquet followed by the fines and Jerseys. No one from Team CSA won anything but we were fined for random stuff – still have no idea on the rules so I’m giving up on that front. Then there was a spot of Karaoke where the Legends powered on into the night with what can only been termed as a diverse mixture of tunes. The night was a big success and was a fitting way to celebrate life as every person on the ride has their own story. Family, I had the best of times with the Legends and it was a fitting way to pay tribute as everyone wore their Tribute Polo’s whilst killing it with their vocal talents– a bar full of our family faces was a sight to see.
As a side note, the locals in these rural town are unusual and I’m sure I keep hearing dueling Banjo’s!
Anyway, today’s plan as the Legends cycle from Guyra to Walcha.
- Get up at 7 AM!
- Breakfast done by 08:15.
- Start rolling at 08:30.
- Flats for 11ks then downhill for 6 then more flats.
- Rolled into Rocky River Primary School for a puppet show – lunch.
- Lots of flat with head wind.
- Roll into Walcha.
Elevation map, where it’s basically FLAT

So what happened today, got up, slightly worse for being on the wrong side of a few Canadian Club’s and its -3, yes MINUS BLOODY THREE. First things first apply the Australian Essential Oils to the undercarriage with the Orchestra Stalls claiming squatters’ rights in my armpits to keep warm – there was a need to heat the area up first as it’s a character building if you don’t at -3. Then it’s all about layers and I prepare for Day 6 looking like Scott of the Antarctic and the environmental delights of moving from out of control bush fires to MINUS BLOODY THREE. The first stop is at 35ks so we just grind through the head wind and a temperature of MINUS BLOODY THREE.
We stop for lunch at Rocky River Primary School where there is a puppet show and one of the teachers has a pet lamb. Now pets are great but this is a rural community where lamb is on the menu so for one to be sitting on the lap of a teacher with pink highlights I think is taking the micky. The show was good and these rural schools appreciated the Legends rolling in and having a chat before they knock over an undulating 46ks to get us to Walcha
Day 6 for your visual pleasure – enjoy.
