The Coup d’état is on…

On 20th April 1980 a group of six armed men stormed the Iranian Embassy on Prince’s Gate in South Kensington, London taking 26 people hostage.  Maggie T had had enough and sent the SAS in to conduct an assault known as Operation Nimrod.  We watched on TV as the SAS abseiled from the roof of the Embassy to conduct a raid lasting 17 minutes. All the hostages were rescued and the hostage takes dealt with appropriately. In 1982, Operation Nimrod was made into a film titled Who Dares Wins – epic film and who can forget Lewis Collins run up the hallway flanked by fully armed SAS soldiers.

And the connection to Day 8 of 1000ks 4 Kids I hear you ask, well from Day 2 there has been rumblings of descent. With military precision we struct and the coup was over in 17 minutes without the need to run up hallways.  The backstory, Dishy has done a nudie run in rural Australia, dressed up as Freddie Mercury’s uglier brother, played a rough 70s porn star and was seen in a cowboy hat, budgie smugglers and slapping his backside shouting “yeehaw” and we have had enough, so we have decided to change Captains – Brad is now in charge.

Last night’s events. No jerseys for Team CSA but I got fined twice for standing in bindies, now bindies hurt so a fine was a least of my worries.  The Skippies thought it would be a good idea to set me up with a Camp Quality Blog comment from the Australian cricket team – ha bloody ha.  Left the pub after the meal, headed to Maccas for a Strawberry Sundae then off to bed, shared a room with team CSA and Santa, all good but there was a lot of snoring – didn’t know Santa sounded like a chain saw.

Today’s plan as the Legends cycle from Tamworth to Murrurundi.

  • Get up at 5:45.
  • Breakfast done by 07:30.
  • Start rolling at 07:45.
  • Flat to Quinndi– lunch.
  • Flats to Wallabadah Primary School – Puppet Show.
  • Did the Chilcotts Creek climb.
  • Roll into Murrurundi.

The map, where yellow is FLAT, red is STEEP and green is DOWNHILL

Got up at 5:45 and we prepared ourselves for a big day on the bikes, finished the tin of Australian Essential Oils and prepared the Carbon Fibre Stallion of the biggest day on 1000ks 4 Kids.

Well it was pretty much flats all the way to lunch with Team CSA the lead riders meaning we are the first six riders, setting set the pace for the rest of the Constipation.  Team CSA did an absolute sterling job leading the Constipation across varying crosswinds and the amount of lorries made it at times challenging.

We rolled into Wallabadah Primary School.  So we are in rural NSW, specifically the upper Hunter which is being devastated by lack of rain and all the communities here are doing it tough – really tough.  The school has 28 students and the puppeteers put on a show that you can tell the kids loved, they spotted Santa and then it happened Xmas requests came flooding in.  The school donated 4 packs of Lego to Camp Quality to give to kids copping with Cancer and laid on morning team for the riders.  Again its humbling that a community doing it tough, bought Lego, put on a real spread and finally filled up our water tanks – were are in a place where you can only have 2 minutes showers, there are egg timers by the showers!.

Left the school and did two sneaky inclines that were challenging but it was a warm up for the Chilcotts Creek climb – 6ks of pure pain where the incline is 10% and it hurts, Team CSA were leading the Constipation and in fact I was in the front spot, did the hard yards and was the first one to reach the summit.  High fives everywhere then the decent into Murrurundi which didn’t take long – good night tonight as its Miss Murrurundi a favorite for cross dressers if you get my drift.

Day 8 for your visual pleasure – ENJOY.
